Pittsburg, CA – November 13, 2018– SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, at 5:30 pm, East County Shared Ministry (ECSM) will once again host the Interfaith Thanksgiving Dinner, in their Social Hall, 200 E. Leland Road, Pittsburg, CA. This long-held tradition joins together people from all walks of faith in a peaceful, safe and friendly environment for promoting peace, starting in Contra Costa County and, with hope, spreading around the world.

The basic Thanksgiving elements will be provided by ECSM: halal turkeys, stuffing, potatoes and gravy. Guests are invited to bring side dishes from their various cultural backgrounds or just a favorite food to share. Vegetarian, kosher and halal – all are welcome here. Appetizers will be offered at 5:30 pm, and the meal will begin at 6 pm.

The tradition began with First Congregational Church (FCC) several years ago with B’nai Torah and the First Samoan Church who were, at the time, sharing the church’s building in Antioch. In 2010, FCC sold its building on Tregallas Road in Antioch and joined Community Presbyterian Church (CPC) in Pittsburg, forming ECSM. The location may have changed, but the tradition and the fellowship continue. People from Christian, Jewish, Islam and all faiths sit side-by-side for a meal of thanksgiving.

Bev Peterson, a long-time church member, has coordinated the event for most of those years including its beginning back in Antioch. The event now draws approximately 70 visitors who look forward to sharing this meal. Bev and her crew of four spend most of the day preparing the feast and, when it’s over, the evening is spent putting the Social Hall back in operating order for the next big event.

“Those who attend are so appreciative that such an event even exists,” commented Bev. “Some have been coming for years, and my favorite comment is, ‘You invite us, we will come.’”

The event is open to all faiths and is free of charge. For more information, please call the church office at 925.439.9361 or email cpcpittsburg@sbcglobal.net.
